What are your interests?

What are your life & career goals?

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Why not study your hardest and do good in school?

When will you be entering the adult world?

Have you ever asked yourself these questions?

Studying in school now helps your chances of getting into a good college. If you do well enough in high school you could get into any college you want. Why not start now? Why wait till it’s too late to start caring?

I know everyone out there has some goal in life, whether it is school, career, or just self-interest related. Everyone wants to get somewhere. Start working towards that now.

Many students often think that since they are not out of their parents house’s yet that they can not make a big difference in there life. They think that high school, or just school in general, isn’t a big deal. They think they can go through life fine without any education, but education benefits you in ways you might not even notice.

Learning more and increasing the knowledge in your brain does not only help your intelligence and future life, but it also effects your health. The more you study, the more you learn, the more you know; it all contributes to how much is inside your brain. Whether or not you are learning in school, or on your own, or just around the streets, it is helping to increase your brain power, and therefore keep you healthy. You need your brain to stay alive; don’t take it for granted.

I know not everyone wants some big deal job or to go to a really great college; and it is fine if you don’t. Just think about where you want to get in life, what you want to do, what career you want, how much money you need to make your live the lifestyle you want. Don’t wait til it’s too late to start caring about your education.

Also, if you are not interested in doing any school related things, get involved in ROP classes, or programs outside of school, such as volunteering and interning, and benefit and help yourself in having a better life.

It may not be important to you that you have the most things or the biggest house or more money than others (if that is important you should definitely start thinking about your education), but if it doesn’t matter to you, start thinking about what you DO want, and try and work towards educating yourself better in your own preferred field.

Everyone can use some improvements in there life, no matter where it is, if your struggling or just needing/wanting to get more or are interested in anything; you start now and take responsibility for your own life. If you do, you will have a chance at making your dreams come true.

Spend some time on your own with a sheet of paper and a pencil and write a list of what you are hoping to achieve in your life; then go out and find things that will help you improve whatever it is your wanting to do. If you are unsure of where to go for more help on the subject; or are unsure of what you’d do to prepare yourself for living alone in this world, search it online. Also, trying out different things will help you find the perfect program. Don’t stop trying just because you are unsure of what to do. Ask for help, or go out and try and do it yourself.

You can never be working too hard, and it can never be ENOUGH, if it is benefiting yourself and your future. If it is FOR YOU, there is nothing more important.

Are you one of the many students with a free period? Are you slightly behind on credits, or just bored sitting around at school? Consider aiding in the Library. It is tons of fun, and they need more help. Some of it is confusing at first, but the more you do, the better you get. If the Library is not of interest to you, try aiding in a class you like. You can ask teachers, or go see your counselor.

It is often cool to aide for a teacher you used to have, or aide for a teacher you have now. Think of a subject you like the most, and go ask a teacher in that department if the free period you have works into their schedule. Aiding is a great way to pass the time and get credits; especially if you have a free period in between your other classes and are forced to stay at school and do nothing. Just think about it, it could be a great experience for you, and aiding is a great thing to share with colleges and on job applications. The Library, especially, is great work experience, and it could help you get a job at the Cabrillo Library, or any other library.

Another thing you could do; most likely it would only work if you get out early; but you could head over to the SPCA, or any other place close, and volunteer. Volunteering on a regular basis is a great way to get your community service hours, and also, is a great thing to add onto college and job applications. Go out and do more; the experiences benefit and add to your future.

Try out different things, there are many choices, and they all await you!

Have you ever forgotten something at school and thought it was lost forever? Well, think again… we have a lost and found box in the main office building. You’d be surprised how many jackets, pullovers, sweaters, and even shoes and pants pile up in that bin. All you have to do is go down the hall in between the counseling office, and the attendance office. Walk all the way down the hall then take a left. Walk to the door and the wooden bin will be on your right hand side. At the end of the semester, or end of the 6 weeks if it’s piled too high, we take all the lost and found clothing and donate it. If you think you lost a phone, DS, Ipod, or other expensive item, go to the front office, and ask Kelly, or anyone else there.

We also have a lost and found in the locker rooms. If you left your PE clothes out, or shoes, or towel, there will be a bin in front of Ms. Cases office. I’m sure the male PE teachers also have a lost and found box in the boys locker room too. Also, all lost jewelry has a place. Jewelry is placed on the windowsill above the lost and found box. If Ms. Case’s office is locked just comeback during break, lunch, or after school.

Harbor High School is going green. New plants are sprouting up around the campus. Our plan is that we will eventually be able to give back to the earth, by providing more natural and healthy breathing plants. The more we plant around our campus the more efficient we will be in helping the earth. Hopefully, we will eventually start using solar panels, and other energy saving products; such as windmills. We want our students to be happy and healthy, and same goes for the earth. If we are kind to mother nature, mother nature will be kind to us.

We are starting 2 new pages. “Words From The Student Body” & “Student Body Submissions Column”, our hope is that we will get other students on campus to start writing and reporting on the things that go on around the school. The Yearbook class works hard to get this site as up to date as possible, but we are also working on the actual yearbook. The things students write will not be up on the main page, but on the two pages listed above.

1. “Words From The Student Body” is a page for all students who want to make some of their writing public, to share with other students. On that page we will be taking any poems, short stories, or other creative type things. If you want to add a photo with your submission, feel welcome. That option is especially good for students in the art department who are wishing to show off their work.

2. “Student Body Submissions Column” is a page for all students to report on what is going on around campus; such as, events, games, etc. Anything you find important and want to share about. You can choose to write about an upcoming event in order to advertise for it, and can also put in a request for one of us to write an article for you to tell students about something that is going to happen at Harbor. Whether you’re writing about something that’s going to happen, or something that you went to, we’d love to have all the extra help and extra news.

If you would like to submit anything, please send it to: JohnnyHope16@yahoo.com

Thank you all! :3

P.S. We also have a “Your Opinion Counts” page, which will occasionally be updated with new polls, tests, and quizzes about Harbor High. It would be a great help for all students to answer as many of them as possible so we are able to make the gangplank, and in some cases the school, a more desirable place to be.

Freshman orientation was a fun event for both link crew members, and incoming freshman. link crew made themes for their freshman to wear, so they can say which is their kids and to unite them. Many link crew members spent hours making their design and signs before hand. One groups theme was Pokemon. They hand painted cardboard signs different Pokemon, then dressed up as Ash and Misty.

The point of freshman orientation is to show freshman that high school isn’t so scary; we want everyone to feel welcome here. At the orientation link crew members decorated the gym to make freshman excited to go to high school. They played many fun games together while getting a little tour of the campus. This way they feel confident and happy to say they’re going to Harbor High.

Harbor High students of every age and grade, whether brand new or almost graduated, come together on Passport Day and rejoice as they see their friends smiling faces once again. Some students may have been busy traveling or doing sports all summer and many didn’t get to see all of their friends, so for most students, Passport Day is a happy occasion. Standing in line with your buddy and chatting it up is a perfect way to pass the time on this day, because the line normally goes very slowly and lots of people are stuck outside in the sun for hours.

Luckily, if you come with friends or are able to find them when you arrive, the day can turn out to be a very satisfying event. Oh, and I bet you can’t wait to see what classes you have with your friends! Good thing you can change your schedules, because I’m sure you’ll be wanting to see a lot more of your friends in classes this year. All my luck, and have a great year!

All Harbor High students gather in front of the MPR to stand in line and wait to get their pictures taken for their student I.D. on Passport Day. They turn in paperwork at different posts throughout the line, and after getting their pictures taken they move on to pick up their schedules and are also handed a planner in which to keep all this school years assignments. If anyone has any problems with their schedule they will have to take it up with their counselor within the scheduled times listed on the sheet of paper.

Anyone wishes to do re-takes for their photos have to wait. There will be an assigned date for all retakes and everyone will be able to either make it up if they were not their for picture day, or take their picture again if they were unsatisfied with how their photographed turned out and would like a different one in the yearbook. As well as being able to take re-takes for photos if you did not attend, you can also visit the counseling office anytime it is open to pick up your schedule, if you have not yet gotten it. The flexibility of office hours and schedule changes, as well as picture re-takes, make the whole process run smoothly. Or at least smoother.
